Seemingly out of nowhere, and potentially teasing a Game Pass addition, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has been turned into an Xbox Play Anywhere game on the Xbox store.
User Terrin4517 noticed today on the Xbox Era Discord that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has been added to the Xbox Play Anywhere platform. This means a purchase of the game on Xbox nets you a copy for the Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, and the Microsoft Store on PC. This happened recently to the third game in the Lara Craft trilogy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, when it entered Game Pass in April’s first drop.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release that updated the previous generation’s title. The game describes itself as:
“The cinematic action-adventure that forced Lara Croft to grow from an inexperienced young woman into a hardened survivor has been re-built for next-gen consoles, featuring an obsessively detailed Lara and a stunningly lifelike world. Lara must endure high-octane combat, customize her weapons and gear, and overcome grueling environments to survive her first adventure and uncover the island’s deadly secret. The Definitive Edition of the critically-acclaimed action-adventure includes bonus content and combines all of the downloadable content from the Xbox 360 version.”
Tomb Raider as an IP has seen a bit of a resurgence lately, including a decent port of the original three titles by Aspyr. Our own Győző “FairyEmpire” Baki said the remaster was “Tomb Raider I-III Remastered brings us back to arguably the most exciting era of the franchise, allowing us to revisit with updated controls and graphics these iconic action adventure classics, while also maintaining the smart level designs, puzzles, etc. as they should be – though, for better or worse, without any real attempt to fix any of the games’ shortcomings either.”
