July and August are often slow months of the year for games. Most games are waiting until Q4 to try and cash in on the holiday cycle.
However, that doesn’t mean that there are no quality titles that are released during these months. I want to take a look at a few games coming out over the coming weeks.
Let’s start off by looking at a game releasing in 5 days.
July 26: Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a spin-off game in the Wolfenstein universe. It is a first person shooter co-op game where you can play as one of BJ Blazkowicz daughters two decades after the events of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. It is a smaller game than the previous Wolfenstein games, and as such is priced at $29.99.
July 30th: Madden 20
Yep. It’s another Madden game. This time, Patrick Mahomes is the cover athlete. There are sure to be a few new features, along with the usual updated rosters and rules. But don’t go into this expecting anything groundbreaking, it’s another Madden after all.
August 27th: Control
The next game from Remedy Entertainment, known for their Xbox exclusive games Alan Wake and Quantum Break, is set to release in August. This game, however, will not be exclusive to Xbox and will be multi-platform, the first time Remedy has gone multi-platform since Max Payne 2 in 2003. At first glance, Control has a lot in common with Alan Wake and Quantum Break. You play as Jesse Faden and use a supernatural weapon of sorts, as well as other supernatural abilities. The game looks promising, and since the game is releasing in August, Control has a chance to shine in an otherwise slow month.
August 30th: Blair Witch
A first person horror game based on Blair Witch? Sign me up! (Actually I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish the game if it’s as terrifying as the movie). Anyways, a Blair Witch game sounds fantastic. From the small amounts of gameplay we have seen, it looks similar to Outlast in the sense that you will be in possession of a camera throughout the game. But instead of exploring a psychiatric hospital, you’ll be exploring a forest terrorized by the Blair Witch. There are sure to be plenty of scares, screams, and watching puppy videos as eye bleach after a long play session. Blair Witch is an Xbox and PC exclusive, and if you aren’t sure if you are brave enough to handle this game, you can try it out when it launches day one on Xbox Game Pass.
