MultiVersus reveal The Joker via new cinematic trailer

Today, Warner Bros and Player First Games, developers of MultiVersus reveal The Joker, a playable character coming the free-to-play platform fighter MultiVersus when it arrives on May 28th.

Those of you with a good ear will perhaps notice it’s of course voiced by the legendary Mark Hamill, who’s reprising his role once again, having previously played The Joker is both the Batman Arkham series and Batman: The Animated Series.

The tale of MultiVersus is an odd one, with the game previously releasing in to a lengthy open beta last year before going offline on June 25th 2023. The developers took all of the feedback and data to heart, rebuilding the game in Unreal Engine 5 and fine-tuning many of the games features to prep for a 2024 relaunch.

In the video below, they note some of the updates and changes that have been made and are coming to the game, from new characters like Marvin the Martian, and brand new stages from the wealth of IP used in MultiVersus.

As mentioned, the game has also moved across to Unreal Engine 5 and made significant updates to it’s net code for crisp and rewarding gameplay, and what the developer notes as a “persistent” experience, no matter where you choose to play. Considering it’s a free-to-play game releasing on multiple platforms, this sure is a welcome update indeed.

They’ve also announced a brand new PvE mode alongside the expected PvP fare so for those of us with a Super Smash Bros itch that Xbox, PlayStation and PC can’t quite scratch, MultiVersus may be right up our alley.
