Ubisoft have announced that a new director has been appointed to the remake of Splinter Cell. The remake was first announced in 2021, and we’ve not heard a lot since, but now David Grivel – who was initially directing the game, but left in 2022 has returned after three years absence to hopefully breathe some new life into the project.

Grivel has posted on his LinkedIn page with the quote “I am very, VERY happy to announce that I’m rejoining Ubisoft Toronto as Game Director on the Splinter Cell Remake!”. Previously, during his time at Ubisoft, Grivel worked on both the Assassin’s Creed series and also Far Cry, before leaving in 2022 to work on Battlefield 6 for EA’s Ridgeline Games which has since closed down.
We initially reported on the remake of Splinter Cell back in 2021, but there have not been many updates on the progress of the title since then apart from some concept art revealed in 2022. You can read our article on that here. Per our article “The game, which was recently greenlit, will use Ubisoft’s “Snowdrop” engine, the same engine that was used for The Division and will be used for the upcoming Ubisoft Avatar and Star Wars games.
The game is currently being pitched as a remake rather than a completely original game.”
Hopefully the appointment of Grivel will reignite the progression of the game development and we will see some more updates soon.
