Microsoft, for all their money and sheer size, often miss on the little things. One thing that’s been bugging Xbox PC app users and owners of the new ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, is how Steam integrates with the Xbox app itself. Instead of pulling in nice artwork and hero images to make your game library look fancy, the Xbox App defaults to the icon that would normally appear on your Windows Desktop. Yuck! Thankfully, a smart developer has come up with a solution – here’s how to fix the artwork for Steam Games in the Xbox PC App!

In steps SteamGridDB for Xbox, a new app from developer K.Derevianko. This new Xbox Game Bar Widget can be installed so that users can choose the artwork for installed games in the Xbox by pulling in much nicer art from SteamGridDB. It’s super simple to do, and much easier than manually downloading the key art you want to use and manually dumping it into the relevant Steam Folder.

I went through the process on my ROG Xbox Ally X this morning, and while it couldn’t find artwork for every game I have installed, it did successfully update most of the Steam games currently installed on the device. Note – you will have to give the app ‘permission’ to access your file management system, and instructions on where that can be found are in Settings/Privacy & Security/ File System/Let Apps Access Your File System.

The end result? Quite nice actually – so many thanks to the developer for their work. The SteamGridDB for Xbox widget is available now for your Windows PC and ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X. If you’re still considering picking up an ROG Xbox Ally, check out our review of the Xbox Ally X right here.
