No, it’s not just you. It seems that following an issue that affected Microsoft’s Azure services, Xbox Live is down globally. Verifying ownership of your games, or playing via Xbox Game Pass – all of this is affected, and it couldn’t come at a worse time.
Obsidian’s excellent The Outer Worlds 2 has just become available on Microsoft’s gaming subscription service, Game Pass. During normal service, this would mean thousands of gamers logging on to play it for the first time. Now, they’ll have to wait a bit.
With even the support page for Xbox Live Services affected by the outage, users can’t even check on what’s happening on see updates as to when it might be resolved. Most unfortunate! It’s been a fair while since we’ve had an outage on the Xbox platform that is this broad, and certainly is more linked to Microsoft’s Azure services than just Xbox. Per reporting from The Verge, it’s also affecting Microsoft 365 and Minecraft too.
An update from Microsoft’s Azure Support Page shared the following update:
“Starting at approximately 16:00 UTC, customers and Microsoft services that leverage Azure Front Door (AFD) may have experienced issues resulting in latencies, timeouts and errors. We have confirmed that an inadvertent configuration change as the trigger event for this issue… Customers may have experienced problems accessing the Azure management portal.“
There is no ETA for a fix as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted when there is!
