In an “about us” section in their investor website, People Can Fly has finally revealed just what Project Maverick is, and it’s something you’ve heard of before.

People Can Fly confirmed earlier last year that they were working with The Coalition to help create Gears E-Day. It is now confirmed via a statement in the About Us section of their investor-focused site that Project Maverick is that work.

Here is our reporting on the initial announcement of Project Maverick:
Developer People Can Fly (of Gears of War: Judgement and Bulletstorm fame) have announced in an ESPI report that they have partnered with Microsoft Corp. to produce a “AAA game” codenamed ‘Project Maverick’ with a production budget of roughly “30 to 50 million US dollars”.
While it may be disappointing that Project Maverick isn’t a full/new title it is interesting to see how much co-development of a game like this can cost. Gears E-Day was first announced as the one more thing of their June Showcase in 2024, ending the main show.
A brand new game in the Gears of War series has been announced, and surprise! It’s not Gears 6. Gears of War: E-Day brings the series back to the beginning, the very beginning, in fact. We will reunite with fan favorite characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in a game set more than a decade before Gears of War 1.
The Coalition’s Creative Director Matt Searcy explains why the studio chose to go back in time, saying ““We realized that a lot of the words we use to describe the franchise were what our fans also use, phrases like brotherhood, brutality, pathos, awe” says Searcy. “Why E-Day? That’s the moment it all comes together. It’s the heart of the Gears universe. Everything that happens is shaped by this day.”
