Sniper Elite: Resistance Hands On | Preview

Ello Bruv, Lemme Shootcha In tha Face

Sniper Elite: Resistance is coming to Xbox consoles, PC, and PlayStation on January 30th, 2025. It’s a Day One Game Pass title and I got to play it for roughly an hour. Using Parsec to play on what seemed to be a UK-based PC. I took over the role of Harry Hawker. He’s an agent of the Special Operations Executive, working through a series of missions that take place at the same time as Sniper Elite 5’s main campaign.  This is more Sniper Elite, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Viva Le Resistance

This text will be short, as it is accompanied by a 30+ minute chunk of gameplay from my time playing the title. I was using Parsec to play with a mouse and keyboard on a PC. There was a fair bit of lag and constant stuttering on my end while playing. Thankfully that isn’t in the locally recorded OBS video that the PR team sent me. I played for an hour or so in the game’s third mission. My target was a traitor who sold out resistance members and earned a nice bullet to the forehead for his troubles.

This is a classic Sniper Elite title, with full campaign co-op, multiplayer modes, and new “propaganda missions”. You can find posters on various levels that let you jump in and try a time-sensitive task as a local French Resistance operative. I didn’t find one in my playtime, which was marred with missed shots that I’m 100% blaming on my connection!

You’re a Sniper, Harry

In Sniper Elite: Resistance you’ll play as Harry Hawker. He sounds a bit like Jason Statham and is a deadshot when ‘is heartbeat is low enough. If you haven’t played one of these titles just know that it’s a bit like the Hitman entries, but with far more of an emphasis on shooting. Every level gives you a series of main and optional objectives to complete. Replayability comes in finding all the secrets, unlocking various new weapons, and more, and finding different paths to completing your goals.

Playing on PC the game looked solid only a few months out from launch. It is an Xbox One, Series, and PC Play Anywhere title. It looks good, being on par with Sniper Elite 5. The big bad threat in this one is a supposed super weapon that the Germans are attempting to find to win the war. You’ll play as Harry and various Resistance fighters solo or in co-op as you try to blast out every Nazi brain you come across.

There is up to 16 player PVP as well, though I only got to play the campaign during this event. The Axis Invasion mode is making a return, letting you invade other players’ campaigns and try to do their Resistance fighters in. Like always there is a mission to, once again, kill Hitler. The deluxe edition has a Season Pass, which tends to give you additional missions over time.

Wrapping Things Up

After my short time with the game, I felt ready for more of Rebellion’s classic sniping action. The Sniper Elite series is an underrated gem, and having it coming to Game Pass Day One should make it a lot easier to recommend. We’ll see how that goes as we hope to have a Review out closer to its January 30th launch.
