Original Gears of War Trilogy voice actors return for Gears of War: E-Day

Brotherhood.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock (or in the nearest emergence hole) Gears of War is getting a new game, titled Gears of War: E-Day. Earlier today, the official Gears of War X Account shared a new social media post sharing a most welcome announcement.

On today’s 18th anniversary of Gears of War, we’re proud to share that John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro are reprising their roles as the iconic voices of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in Gears of War: E-Day.”

Gears of War: E-Day is taking us back to where it all began with a prequel focusing on a very young Marcus Fenix and brother in arms Dom Santiago. It’s here where we’ll “experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas.” – apparently.

It’s set about 14 years before the events of the first game, which released all the way back in 2006 and cemented the Xbox 360 as a superb console of that generation. It’s being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 with The Coalition developing. We’re pretty sure it’s going to melt a few eyeballs when it arrives.

The Coalition’s Creative Director Matt Searcy explained why the studio chose to go back in time, saying “We realized that a lot of the words we use to describe the franchise were what our fans also use, phrases like brotherhood, brutality, pathos, awe. Why E-Day?  That’s the moment it all comes together. It’s the heart of the Gears universe. Everything that happens is shaped by this day.”

Either way, it’s a very exciting time for Gears of War fans. Outside of a new entry into the franchise, which is rumoured to be coming as soon as next year, there’s also a brand new animated show on Netflix to look forward to.
