The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro headset for Xbox is fantastic.  Surprising comfort is paired with clear sound and excellent battery life to make a product worthy of its $199 price tag. Some minor microphone issues hamper the gaming experience a bit, but only just.

Razer lists the BlackShark as their “ESPORTS” headset, with a focus on first-person-shooter titles.  My son used them for dozens of hours while playing Call of Duty and Fortnite and couldn’t stop raving about how good they sounded.  We used this headset on Xbox, PS5, and PC, with the PC mode on the dongle allowing it to connect to the latter two devices flawlessly.

The Feel & Sound

The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro is extremely comfortable.  Utilizing a closed-back design the clamp pressure was never too much while it offered excellent noise isolation.  High quality memory foam is used to keep comfort levels high while there is enough air flow to keep your ears from becoming overheated.  The headband, one of the most important parts of any headset, is thick and soft allowing for an even distribution of weight along your head.

There are multiple sound profiles included:

  • Game
  • Movie
  • Music
  • Custom
  • Apex Legends
  • Call of Duty
  • Fortnite

My son used the Call of Duty and Fortnite ones with each respective title and found they did help with footstep and shot clarity during gameplay. You have full audio equalizer capabilities using Razer’s app which was nice when jumping between gaming, music, and watching shows or streams.  The main complaint I have about the headset, and it’s one that my son shares, is that the microphone is incredibly sensitive when not being used on an Xbox.  Xbox’s built in noise-suppression worked well but when using this Xbox version on a PS5, Switch, or PC the built-in microphone was incredibly sensitive.  Other than that it’s comfortable, sounds great, and outside of a long boot-up process there’s nothing “wrong” with it.

Wrapping Things Up

The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro headset is a fantastic piece of hardware.  It’s not cheap with an MSRP of $199 but a solid design, excellent sound, and phenomenal battery life make it well worth the cost. This product is available for purchase via Amazon here.
