In the latest confirmation of what Xbox keeps saying repeatedly, the Wall Street Journal has stated in a brief article that Xbox will be putting this year’s Call of Duty release into Game Pass.

As reported previously by Tom Warren, the issue of “should Call of Duty go directly into Game Pass” was bandied about in some form at some point by Xbox. Sarah Bond recently stated “the entire slate” of 1st party titles would be in the service during Bloomberg’s Tech live stream. Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the plan is still in fact to bring Call of Duty’s next release into Game Pass at launch.
Here’s her exact quote from the video above.
Sarah: “And the last piece is about game pass. We know our core users love game pass, game pass is a gaming subscription, you get a whole portfolio of games, but importantly you get every single one of the games we build day one in game pass. And the quality and the breadth of those games has only been going up over time. And you’re going to see some more really big games going into Game Pass later this year.”
Dina: “From Activision’s portfolio or?”
Sarah: “Across the whole slate, across the whole slate, you’re going to see some really amazing things. And keeping that as something that is really special for Xbox players is central to us.”
Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has reported that this year’s Call of Duty is titled “Gulf War” and is a return to the Black Ops side of the series. Are you a CoD fan? If not are you planning to check it out via Game Pass? Sound off in the comments below and let us know either way.

I might actually play CoD again because of this. I fell off the series hard when CoD: Ghosts came out and just couldn’t bring myself to shell out the $70 every year for a game I knew I probably wouldn’t finish. I’ll probably give the MP a whirl again as well until I realize I’m too old to keep up.
Shocked I tell ya
I mean I don’t believe every word they say but recently they confirmed it again. Would be a incredibly bad look if they now said…nah.
“Things change” “After careful consideration…” “The market dictates…”
I believe it when I see it.
(I’m sure it will be there, for the record)
Congrats to Indiana Jones on its 12 million week 1 players!
They gotta make a Cod Bundle with 6 months of Game Pass Ultimate, make sure everyone knows that Xbox is the place to play COD now, advertise it everywhere…
Game Pass average per customer is like 9 bucks and some change so there’s still plenty of people they can convert to Ultimate.
Not really, based on the pre and post “Game Pass Core” numbers that we know. A good majority is already on Ultimate. And those who aren’t yet, are probably just not interested.
No upgrade path for PC Game Pass, either. (Not sure if that’s included in the 9 bucks average?)
As the WSJ article is pay walled I can’t see it, but, had assumed their source was the Sarah Bond interview quoted in the Xboxera news post and this was a nothing burger.
Or are they claiming different sources for this already made public information?
I will play the campaign for sure
