Amazon Prime announces new TV Show based on “Tomb Raider”

Streaming services are on a roll when it comes to video games and TV show adaptations. Following the success of Amazon’s own Fallout TV show, in addition to the success of The Last of Us for HBO and Halo Season 2 on Paramount+, it looks like we can add a new one to the list in the form of Tomb Raider.

Today, Prime Video, in partnership with Embracer Group, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios have announced a new TV series based on “the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise”.

On board for writing and production duties is none other than Fleabag and Indiana Jones star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and with a new game in the franchise heading our way pretty soon, looks like Tomb Raider fans will have plenty to look forward to.

Full Press Release:

Today, Prime Video announced it has ordered a new series based on the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise as part of a deal between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. The series will be written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

This exciting news comes after Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games previously announced a collaboration to develop and publish a new multiplatform Tomb Raider video game. The as-yet untitled game is a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that will add a new chapter to Lara Croft’s story in the Tomb Raider series.

“With great IP, the possibilities are endless. The richness and depth of the fiction allows the Tomb Raider series from Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to tell separate stories about Lara Croft’s adventures.” said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games. ”We’re honored that Crystal Dynamics has entrusted Amazon with this iconic franchise, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us.”

It’s worth mentioning that Amazon Prime members can claim 2013’s Tomb Raider: Game of the Year edition on PC via GOG – but the even better definitive edition is available via Xbox Game Pass.
