What is GTA 6 releasing on?
Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced and given a rough timeframe of when it will release. The big question though is what is GTA 6 releasing on?
In December 2023 the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer launched and gave us two platforms. Xbox Series consoles and the PlayStation 5. When asked about PC Take-two stated that it wouldn’t be available at launch, which is par for the course with Rockstar titles. They are yet to have a simultaneous launch across consoles and PCs, with at least a few-month delay between the platforms as consoles hit first.
As to when the game may be released, at the end of the trailer, we get the year 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI. Since then reporting has come out placing it as coming out no earlier than April 1st, 2025. In their most recent earnings report, Take-Two stated a large increase in their projected income for the period that runs from April ’25 to March ’26, indicating that GTA 6 will not be released until that time period.
GTA 6 will be coming to the Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 consoles at launch, with a PC version later as per usual with Rockstar releases. GTA 6 is the sequel to one of the most successful releases of all time, Grand Theft Auto V. The GTA series originated on PC nearly three decades ago, in 1997. GTA 6 takes place in Vice City, the game’s version of Miami, Florida.
Vice City is the main attraction of the Leonida County map. The trailer showed off a variety of locations including beaches, cityscapes, muddin festivals, and Everglade style forests. The main characters in GTA 6 are Lucia and Jason. Lucia will be the first playable female character in a GTA title. Based on the trailer there’s a heavy “Bonnie and Clyde” gangster vibe going between the two.
