Fallout Episode Four | Review

Full Spoilers

No title card as we start in the wasteland, facing down a mostly burned-out ghost town. We get a nice clear shot of a radroach as Lucy and Ghoulgins are trudging through the burnt-out remnants of what used to be a small town road. They enter a medical clinic in hopes of finding something useful but we quickly hear scary sounds, it’s a ghoul starting to turn feral due to a lack of meds.  What a twist!

Fallout Episode Four

It’s an old friend of Ghoulgins, he’s out of anti-ferals and they have a pleasant conversation about things.  They’re both going after the bounty and you can see the sadness in Ghoulgins eyes as his kind ghoul friend is starting to turn.  As they’re mid-shooting the shit the ghoulfriend looks towards Lucy while reminiscing about how good human food tasted as a shot rings out.  Ghoulgins has blown his friend’s brains all over the wall as an act of mercy. His next acts, yanking out the ghoulfriend’s teeth and chopping his body up for food aren’t so kind.  That’s the wasteland though, and it’s a lesson bathed in blood for Lucy, one Ghoulgins relishes in as he forces her to chop his friend’s body up.

In a happier place, Vault 33 are going to hold elections for the new Overseer. Reg (played by Rodrigo Luzzi, Woody (played by “spider-man do a flip”’s Zach Cherry, and Betty (played by Leslie Uggams are all vying for the spot. Betty brings a piece of pie to Norm and tries to talk some “sense” into him about him calling for the death of the Raiders in the previous episode.  She knows Norm is smart, and his anger can lead to a far darker path than when a common idiot is pissed off. Barb is smarter than the average Vault Dweller, which means I don’t trust her.

We’re back to Ghoulgins and Lucy as they trundle along to some unknown destination. Lucy is desperate for water and Ghoulgins taunts her with a highly radioactive source, one he can drink from without issue.  She gives in and drinks, putting herself at an extremely high risk for radiation sickness. Ghoulgins has a coughing fit due to his lack of meds and Lucy makes a fruitless dash away.  Lucy bites Ghoulgins index finger off as they fight and he returns the favor by chopping off hers, which he pockets for himself.

Fallout Episode Four

Back in Vault 33 Chet is quickly becoming Steph’s new squeeze, whether he wants to or not.  She’s lonely, horny, and really misses her dead husband Burt.  Calling Chet by that name and after dressing him in Bert’s clothes they quickly get to work, getting ready to go to Pound Town.  “Oh Bert”… “Yes I AM BERT”.  Chet then states “That is one wet lady” a hilariously gross line once you realize that Steph’s water has broken, and she’s going into labor.

We cut back to Ghoulgins selling Lucy off to a Matt Berry-voiced robot before collapsing face-first into the dirt.  The Berry-bot seems nice, giving Lucy a new finger from a bunch he just happened to have kept in a drawer.  Through super tech he quickly and painlessly attaches it to her stump and it works perfectly, though it is corpse colored.  Lucy is terrified that she’s been sold into sex slavery but lucky her, it’s a human body chop shop and she gets hit with a tranq dart.

Vault 33 is up again and we see Norm going through his new job of feeding the Raider prisoners, including a meal of everyone’s favorite, Jell-O Cake! He heads to Chet’s where Steph is in labor and they take off, heading over to Vault 32 which has been blocked off with stones.  Inside they see dead crops, and lots of dead people.  Long dead too, not recent Raider kills at all.  The entire place is a skeleton town and has been for a while. It’s some real horror show shit, with a populace that seemed to know some terrible secret and went mad over it.

Fallout Episode Four

Back in the mall body chop shop Lucy wakes up in time and is able to fight off the Berry-Bot that wants to harvest her internal organs. This place is a house of horrors, filled with Ghouls and every type of drug you can think of.  Two stoners are running it and Lucy forces them to release all of the ghouls by threatening them with the Berry-Bot’s tranq gun.  They try to warn her that maybe she shouldn’t let all of them out, but she’s too nice to listen.

All the still sane ghouls escape but the stoners are quickly attacked by the feral ones they tried to warn Lucy about.  She hides until the stoners and all but one feral are dead.  She’s a nice old lady trying to fight it, saying her name over and over again.  The feeding frenzy kicks in though and Lucy is forced to kill her after an Evil Dead-style jump attack.  Baptizing Lucy in a Crimson Mask and making this Wastelander Baby finally grow up.

We have a quick cut back to Vault 32 where Norm finds his mother’s name in an inter-vault log.  Her Pip-Boy was used to open up Vault 32 from the outside, which is how the Raiders were able to enter!  Hot diggity daffodils. We end with Lucy being kind and giving Ghoulgins the medication he needs to survive.  He trundles inside and finds many years’ worth in the Stoner’s stash.  They even have one of his old movies on tape and start watching his past self act before we cut to black, fin.

Wrapping Things Up

My favorite episode so far.  It moved the plot along less but had a ton of memorable exchanges as it had a tighter focus and less jumping around.
