Microsoft has officially acquired Activision-Blizzard-King, and that means a lot of changes will happen over the next few months. One of the biggest and most needed changes will be Bobby Kotick’s apparent departure from the company at the end of 2023. He says in an internal email to the company that “Phil [Spencer] has asked me to stay on as CEO of ABK, reporting to him, and we have agreed that I will do that through the end of 2023.”
Bobby Kotick has been mired in controversy after numerous claims of harassment and employee misconduct were aimed at ABK. One of the reasons Microsoft may have been able to purchase the company were the tanking stock prices due to the numerous stories of inappropriate conduct and multiple legal battles. Kotick’s departure at the top of 2024 was inevitable, and this email confirms that inevitability.
