Microsoft to Shut Down Xbox Social Clubs this April

If you were a social creature on Xbox Live, your days may be numbered. Microsoft have announced plans to shut down Xbox Social Clubs later this year, as users increasingly ignore the feature and turn to services like Discord.

Xbox Live Clubs were announced way back in 2016, and back then the team at Xbox were looking for, in their words, “ways to bring people together and have more fun gaming.” This brought along useful features like LFG (Looking For Group) but Social Clubs were aimed at bringing like-minded souls together for different things, across different games.

In a blog post over on the Xbox support site, the team have shared the news that starting April 2026, Social Clubs on Xbox will be shutting down, though developers can still maintain ‘Official Game Clubs’ to keep users updated and engaged with their titles.

As to why they’re shutting down, Microsoft shared that this update is “is part of ongoing platform updates to focus on the social experiences players use most today.” They stress that LFG is still available for like minded players to seek each other out, and you can learn more here.
