If you’re an ardent Steam user waiting patiently for news and updates on Valve’s Steam Machine, Steam Frame and the new Steam Controller, they’ve shared an update – but it’s not quite the answers you may have been hoping for.

In a new post over on Steam, Valve have shared a variety of updates across all the new products, but straight out of the gate, they focus on the biggest question gamers have been asking since the reveal – when is it coming out, and how much will it cost?
There’s been plenty of speculation as to how affected Valve is by the soaring price of necessary memory and storage components thanks to the rise of AI, and indeed, they seem to have been unable to escape the impact seen across the market. Here’s what they had to say:
Before we dive into some of the hardware-specific questions we’ve seen, we want to get straight to the two we know everyone is wondering about the most: When will these be launching, and how much will they cost?
When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).
Our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed. But we have work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change. We will keep you updated as much as we can as we finalize those plans as soon as possible.
The good news is Valve still plan on shipping the Steam Machine, new Steam Controller and Steam Frame in the first half of this year, but as for a concreate date and price, we’ll have to be a little more patient. There’s plenty of additional detail to dig into on that blog post, including notes on performance, how games will be upscaled and that internal components within the Steam Machine will be upgradable, just like any standard PC out there.
