IGN has gone live early with their coverage of the Overwatch Spotlight, letting us know that the 2 is being dropped, 10 more heroes are coming, new modes, and more.

Whoops
According to this IGN report, Overwatch 2 is dropping the number and will be ‘Overwatch’ once again. It is going to be a ‘new, story-driven era’ with a bunch of new content including story beats, 10 new heroes, and more. This new content is part of the “Reign of Talon”, which sees Overwatch overwhelmed by their nemesis. “In-game events, hero trailers, animated comics, short stories, and map updates will tell a story across six seasons”, per IGN.
The first five new heroes will be:
- Domina (Tank) – Talon
- Emre (Damage) – Talon
- Mizuki (Support) – Talon
- Anran (Damage) – Overwatch
- Jetpack Cat (Support) – Overwatch
There will be five more heroes joining over the rest of the year, which will see the story arc through with a new one beginning in 2027. IGN goes on to discuss ‘meta events’ called Conquest. Essentially, players choose a side of either Talon or Overwatch in this limited time mode. It has all the standard rewards like skins, etc.
Blizzard’s quote on why they are dropping the 2 from the title:
“Overwatch is more than just a digit: it’s a living universe that keeps growing, keeps surprising, and keeps bringing players together from around the world. This year marks a huge turning point in how the development team envisions the future of Overwatch, so we are officially dropping ‘2’ and moving forward as ‘Overwatch’.”
