The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 has been officially paused indefinitely after Take Two Interactive’s most recent quarterly earnings report was published. The game initially announced delays back in September 2025, just before it was due for release, but the game has now been completely withdrawn from the release schedule. So, what’s the reasoning behind the stoppage? Keep reading to find out, as Borderlands 4 is paused indefinitely for Nintendo Switch 2.
Speaking with Variety, Take Two Interactive’s spokesperson Alan Lewis stated “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU, our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”
Borderlands 4 released last September onto Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, and was originally intended to be launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3rd, 2025. All pre-orders for the title were cancelled when the initial pause to development occurred, and now it seems that the game is not making its way to Nintendo at all, as Take Two focus their attention elsewhere.
Our reviews editor Jesse reviewed Borderlands 4 at launch, and was a huge fan, saying “Open World Loot-focused cooperative shooters are my favorite genre. Borderlands 4 is the best one in it that I’ve played. I have no major faults, only a few minor gripes about one character and how long bodies take to disappear when you want to grab the loot underneath ‘em. Outside of that, Borderlands 4 is a masterpiece. For all the hours I have already played, I could easily see myself putting in another thousand over the years, loving every second of it.” Check out the full article here.
