The latest development team in a seemingly very long line, Moonshot Games have just confirmed that they have laid off employees in a move that will allow them to keep supporting Wildgate. The confirmation was made by Moonshot’s parent company Dreamhaven when they released a statement to media outlet Game Developer. The number of people that this decision will affect is as yet unspecified as Moonshot Games, developers of Wildgate confirms layoffs.

Wildgate released in July last year, and was recently added to the Epic Games Store but this doesn’t seem to have had enough of an impact to justify keeping the entire development team. Per a statement made to Game Developer “In early January 2026, Wildgate launched on the Epic Games Store, where it was well-received by new and returning players. It was great to see so many crew up on Discord, share tips and stories, and enjoy their time with one another in the Reach,
Despite the increase in player numbers and overall positive reception, it wasn’t enough to sustain the size of our development team. So we made the difficult decision to reduce team roles to ensure we can continue delivering updates to the game while working in a way that supports the studio in the long term. We remain focused on Wildgate’s next content update, which introduces more quality of life improvements, including the highly-requested progression system, which we anticipate coming later this quarter.”
Dreamhaven had already made cutbacks to its publishing team last September. Mike Morhaime, founder of Dreamhaven made the following statement at the time of the previous round of cuts “These choices are never easy – they affect talented colleagues who have played a key role in building Dreamhaven’s foundation and supporting what has been an eventful year for us.”
These latest layoffs have come at a time of seeming uncertainty for the industry, and begs the question – who’s next?
