This is ‘Kiln’ – A Pottery-Based Brawler From Double Fine

Well, surprise! Tim Schafer and team are back with a brand new game, Kiln, from Double Fine Productions. It’s an online, pottery-based brawler! Build yourself a pot, then embark on a rampage of destruction whilst trying to put out the fire of your opposing team’s kiln. Random? Yes! But does it look cool? Absolutely. Read on to find out more about Kiln – the pottery-based multiplayer party brawler from Double Fine.

Kiln is born from a gamejam the folks at Double Fine regularly do at the studio, where anyone can come with a new game idea, and it’s all about creating with friends – and then using what you create to destroy each other. You start the game as a tiny naked spirit whose job it is to inhabit the body of the pot they create. You then get into a battle arena with your teammates and basically smash the life out of the opposition.

More about Kiln

Per Derek Brand, Project lead at Kiln “Determining what shape you make starts with the amount of clay you want to craft with – small, medium, or large. This is your first big decision – do you want to be a fast little pot, more balanced, or huge and durable? Within each of those weight classes there are eight shapes you can make on the wheel, like bottles and cups and bowls to carry water into battle.

Each shape you create comes with their own special move, their own basic attack, and their own air attack – I’m told there are 24 total special attacks in the game, and they’re all inspired by the functionality of their shapes. So, a little plate which looks like a hockey puck can have a trick shot that will ricochet off multiple enemies. For cup-shaped pots, you have an area-of-effect attack that shoots out popcorn. Or if you make a big cylinder, that can turn into a huge hammer that can slam down and obliterate enemies.

Who knew that pottery could be so complicated?! Once your pot is made, you can then fully customise it and then head to ‘The Wedge’ – a sort of dojo where you can practice your moves. It also has a shop where you can buy cool gear for your pot.

Once you head into battle – the plan is fairly simple: collect water, defend your base and douse the other team’s kiln. There are tons of arenas to play in and they are based around ancient gods. There’s the Dionysus map containing a dance floor, and the Hermes one is constantly sending out packages.

From what we have seen so far, Kiln looks like a great game for all the family to play and have lots of fun with.

Kiln is releasing in Spring 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5.
