Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Has Been Rated by ESRB

Prince of Persia fans that have long been looking forward to a remake of a classic should be on standby! The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has now been rated by the ESRB, suggesting a release is, at least…close by.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Has Been Rated by ESRB

In a new rating that’s now live on the ESRB website, the game has officially been rated ‘T for Teen’, which seems to be in-line with the original release. The full rating description is below, with an amusing mention of ‘buttocks’ which at least made me giggle, because I’m immature like that.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is rated T for Teen by the ESRB with Blood, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, and Violence.

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a Persian prince on a quest to break a curse. From a third-person perspective, players traverse platform environments, sole puzzles, avoid traps (e.g., spike pits, wall-mounted blades and saws), and battle cursed soldiers and creatures made of sand. Players use swords and daggers to defeat enemies in melee-style combat. Battles are accompanied by sword clashing, cries of pain, blood-splatter and slow-motion effects. A 2D side-scrolling sequence (i.e., the original version of Prince of Persia) depicts blood pools when the prince is killed. During the course of the game, a female character’s buttocks is briefly exposed; she and the prince are shown kissing and caressing each other in bed (implying sex), though camera angles obscure breasts and genitalia, as the camera fades to black.

As for when the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake is actually meant to appear available for you to play, our friends at Insider Gaming had shared previously that it is meant to appear this month, saying that per sources close to to the game, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake is scheduled to release in mid-January 2026.

With Ubisoft still remaining tight lipped, this latest ESRB rating for the game certainly adds fuel to the fire. It’s been a very lengthy development process for what should arguably be a fairly straightforward remake. Indeed, the game was originally meant to release back in 2021, but saw several delays and Ubisoft Toronto coming on board to join the development team at Ubisoft Montreal. Since then, it’s been very, very quiet.

Perhaps Ubisoft will surprise us soon?
