1047 Games Fire Back at Critics Who Have Pointed out ‘Splitgate: Arena Reloaded’ Low Player Count on Steam

"Steam Charts don’t measure fun"

Splitgate 2 has had a pretty rough journey. It launched back in May, and prior to that, I interviewed 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx, who was, let’s say, very confident.

One divisive hat at Summer Game Fest later, the game didn’t quite land with players, and in July, 1047 Games officially ‘delaunched’ the title and cut staff, moving the game back to beta to focus on ‘rebuilding major parts of the game to capture the spirit of what made Splitgate special.

The game relaunched as ‘Splitgate: Arena Reloaded’ just before Christmas, but it’s not as of yet had the explosive moment that it’s predecessor saw back in 2021. Online, the usual suspects have zoomed in on the games Steam Chart player count, noting that often the free-to-play shooter had less than a thousand players. Rightly or wrongly, 1047 Games have fired back at those poking fun, effectively saying that Steam charts aren’t the be-all-and-end-all data point of a games performance.

Sharing an update via the game’s official social media account, the 1047 Games team fired back at critics, saying “Steam Charts don’t measure fun. They show one number, one one platform, at one given moment. They don’t show the full picture or what it feels like to actually play, and they definitely don’t capture the community that’s actively helping shape what Arena Reloaded is becoming (including upcoming content like Arena Royale).

Over the past six months, we rebuilt Splitgate from the ground up because we believe in the game, our team, and our community. The 1047 team remains committed to delivering the best version of Splitgate possible.

To our amazing community: thank you. Your feedback and passion have helped make [Splitgate] Arena Reloaded better every day. And to everyone who hasn’t played yet: Arena Reloaded is free, the gameplay’s the best it’s ever been, and we’d love for you to jump in and form your own opinion. A lot of passionate people worked very hard on it.

As for that Steam Player Count? Yes, it is low, but it obviously doesn’t take into account players across both Xbox and PlayStation, which in theory, could be higher.
