You ever wonder what Digital Extremes’ free-to-play looter-shooter ‘Warframe’ really is? Well, look no further than this video that aired during The Game Awards, featuring legendary actor and filmmaker Werner Herzog (The Mandalorian, Ghost Elephants)—as an mysterious visualisation of The Indifference. Warframe’s live-action short hints at the many mysteries to be discovered and unraveled across the game’s expansive far future sci-fi narrative. The game’s latest chapter, “The Old Peace”, launched this week and is available for free now across all platforms—PC via Warframe.com/Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch consoles, iOS, and soon Android devices. Full cross-save and crossplay are supported.
Plus, we got another look at the developer’s next game ‘Soulframe’, which you can check out in the Pre-alpha by becoming a Founder, giving you a chance to check out the world as its shaped and to give feedback on the game’s development. Soulframe will launch when it’s good and ready sometime in the future.
“The Game Awards is a special night, and it’s inspiring to see different industries come together to celebrate the craft of game making,” said Rebecca Ford, Warframe Creative Director. “That’s exactly why our partnership with Werner Herzog was so perfect for this trailer. He brought a totally fresh perspective to Warframe, embracing its strange beauty and human core. This collaboration allowed us to see our own world we created through different eyes, and we have never been more sure of Warframe’s future for 2026 and beyond. Thank you to everyone who helped us survive for more than 12 years. We look forward to continuing to be weird and doing things our own way to serve our communities across every medium we can.”
Featuring Golden Joystick winner and 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough actor Jennifer English (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Baldur’s Gate III), Soulframe’s trailer debuts a sneak peek at what its Founders’ paths have to offer intrigued players and what the future holds for Digital Extremes’ latest online action fantasy adventure, as it embraces themes of healing and redemption from corruption.
“Soulframe Founders feels more like a leap forward than just a simple step for this new adventure of ours,” said Geoff Crookes, Soulframe Creative Director. “We’re inviting players to plant their roots in Alca and help define everything that comes next. So please join us, won’t you?”
