If you’re hankering for some suitably wintery-themed updates for Battlefield 6, today is the day! The Battlefield 6 ‘Winter Offensive’ Season 1 update is live, and brings with it some new content for you to enjoy.

Besides the full patch notes, which we’ve already detailed, The Battlefield 6 Season 1 ‘Winter Offensive’ Update brings with it a heap of new content. First up, a new icy version of the ‘Empire State’ map, with frozen, snowy streets and ‘seasonal environmental visuals’. I’m chilly just looking at it.
There’s also new time-limited multiplayer and gauntlet modes to enjoy with a new ‘freeze’ mechanic, a cool suitably themed ice climbing axe to unlock, and of course the Battlefield 6 Season 1 ‘Winter Offensive’ Battle Pass.

Per the press release – “Players can gear up, stay warm, and take complete control of the borough of Brooklyn in Ice Lock, a limited-time visual update to the Empire State map in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. For this event in Battlefield 6, special versions of Conquest and Domination will be available to play with a Freeze mechanic fully active. With Freeze, areas around the Combat Zone have sub-zero temperatures – over time, a soldier will feel the effects of the Freeze.
To avoid being frozen, soldiers can sprint or use an Adrenaline Injector. Alternatively, they can visit designated heat zones around the map to thaw out. This mechanic is only active in specific experiences and is designed to challenge squads to tactically manage resources. Do players risk freezing over to capture a crucial objective or pack enough heat in their loadouts to torch the opposition?“

In our review for Battefield 6 Multiplayer, we said “Battlefield 6‘s multiplayer is the most Battlefield-coded entry in the franchise in many years, taking us back to the series’ glory days. Tight gunplay, excellent presentation, impressive polish and a surprisingly robust launch arsenal. All that in service of a shooter that is quite safe in its intents, but one that offers all sort of exhilarating “only in Battlefield” moments that just beg to captured for a clip to share. The glacial unlock progression and the lack of meaningful innovations can’t really hide the elephant in the room. Battlefield is back, and we’re set to stick to this digital warfare for months to come.“
