Despite Thanksgiving and Black Friday craziness happening this week, the team here at XboxEra have still managed to fit in some time to play some cool games. This is our weekly feature where we fill you in on what we have been up to, and we would really love to hear from you in our poll at the bottom of the article. What are you playing this weekend?

This week I’ve put a lot of time into Deep Rock Galactic Survivor. I am a huge fan of the main Deep Rock title, and Survivor carries over the whit and fun of that title into one of my favorite bullet-heaven/survivor likes. Our own FairyEmpire did a fantastic review of it, just know that it is on Game Pass, is Play Anywhere, and will eat up all of your free time if you start playing it.

Another title is SILENT HILL 2, which I had never played through fully before. Bloober Team, who put out of my favorite games of the year in Cronos: The New Dawn, have masterfully rebuilt the horror classic. It is faithful without feeling derivative, if that makes sense. The soundtrack is as amazing as ever, and their work in Unreal Engine 5 looks and runs beautifully on Xbox Series consoles.

This week, my gaming time- be it on my handheld Xbox Ally X or my PC – has predominantly been taken over by a wonderful arcade twin-stick shooter called Sektori.

Created by an ex-housemarque developer, this is one hell of an addictive treat, with classic Geometry Wars style gameplay that’s a little deeper and more challenging, combined with one of the best soundtracks of the year. While you can read my full review here, I’ve had great fun combining this with my XREAL Ones to truly get in the zone…. Go grab a copy for yourself.

Chaos Zero Nightmare is a sci-fi horror deckbuilding RPG where the world has been overtaken by Chaos—this malignant force of death, destruction, and horrifying monsters that pierce the soul. So much so that, in this free-to-play mobile and PC game, you’ll not only be going up against terrifying freaks as you make your way through the remnants of what came before, but you’ll have to watch your team’s stress meter as you delve further and further away from home.

I don’t want to give everything away as I am prepping a review for next week on the matter. But! What I can say is that I’ve been enjoying it a little too much – enough to take me away from my other games! Stop by next week for a delving into Chaos Zero Nightmare by none other than me, myself, and I.

This week I was recommended to try Maze Mice by Jon. He was suggested this super-addictive title by one of our lovely Patrons. Per Vinnie 13, “Maze Mice is like an unholy combination of Pacman, Vampire Survivors and Super Hot.” Really simple to pick up, plays brilliantly on my ASUS ROG Ally, and is the most addictive thing I have played since Balatro – I would highly recommend this game as a light way to pass the hours (a lot of hours in my case)!

Aaand rolled credits on Avowed!

A good, and at times great, game that I think could improve on so much with a potential sequel that I’m already really excited to head back to the Living Lands. Though I still maintain that it has some of the best first person melee combat in a game yet, if not the best! Yet what I really need to mention is how well Avowed handled my own character progression, both with my actual protagonist and also with me, the player. Sounds weird, but what I mean is that when I first came to the Living Lands, my plan was to win over the denizens through kindness and generosity, letting them see there was a side to Aedyr that wasn’t just the end of a blade.

And yet as the game progressed I found my character changing his views, no longer trying to mediate for the empire whenever possible and by the very end, he had shifted allegiances almost entirely. Avowed was one of the few times I’ve seen a game really challenge and change my own player character’s perspectives. Yes the game wasn’t perfect and clearly had some limitations, but Obsidian once again showed me why they’re at the very top of the Western RPG genre.

Next up, this is the “Year of the Ninja”, right?
