ARC Raiders is undoubtedly one of the biggest games of the year, and now the team at Embark, in partnership with the fantastic crew over at NoClip have released the first episode of a new video documentary – “The Evolution of Arc Raiders“. Check out the first episode below!
NoClip’s Danny O’Dwyer has been documenting the development of the game for the past few years, and as noted by Danny in the introduction, the story behind the games development is pretty interesting.
“While most games change over the course of development, the story of ARC Raiders is a unique one. Because not only has this game changed dramatically, but the original version of the game that was shown to the public no longer exists.“
Indeed, ARC Raiders started life as a purely co-op PvE experience, with hero characters and was originally going to be free to play. That’s quite a change between that first reveal at The Game Awards in 2021 and the games launch last month.
Over the course of three episodes, the NoClip team will dive into why the original concept changed so much, but how the current version came to be. Besides that, they’ll be taking a look at the technology behind how some of the ARC machines navigate the world, the audio teams fantastic work and more. Sounds like quite a good watch for anyone with even a passing interest in game design and development.

Much like the rest of the gaming population, we were blown away by just how good ARC Raiders is, and in my review, I said “ARC Raiders walks a fine balance. It’s an extraction shooter seemingly purpose-built for the hardcore players, yet is surprisingly accessible, whether you’re playing with friends or going out there solo. It’s thematically dystopian, yet utterly beautiful to look at, full of bright splashes of colour and a cohesive overall design. It can be tense, thrilling, and downright terrifying, but it is also filled with surprisingly sweet and endearing moments with the sort of random, social interaction I’ve not enjoyed since the early days of Sea of Thieves. This is ARC Raiders, and it’s just the beginning. It’s one of the best multiplayer games of the year, standing toe to toe with the giants in the genre. I’ll see you topside.“
