How’s this for being dedicated to the details? In order to help bring their upcoming game to life, Owlcat Games have hired an actual astronaut to help make The Expanse: Osiris Reborn as authentic as possible. Space is scary, so how do Owlcat Games aim to make it feel that way, but also be realistic at the same time? Check out their new Dev Diary below!
Among many of the games I’m looking forward to beyond the end of 2025, none got me quite as excited and hopeful as Owlcat Games and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a 3rd person ‘Mass Effect’ style sci-fi action RPG that’s set in the universe of The Expanse, an incredible set of books and an excellent TV show of the same name. Set in the 24th Century, humanity had conquered the solar system via the invention of the ‘Epstein Drive’, a new type of Fusion Engine. As much as grounded science fiction is the order of the day, there are some heavy political themes throughout, with humanity split into various factions who all distrust one another – Earthers, Martians and Belters.

It seems Owlcat Games are certainly gunning for realism for this one, and have recruited Leroy Chiao, a former NASA Astronaut and ISS commander to help create a real feel for what its like to work and live in space. There’s a few additional clips of gameplay footage in the new developer diary, and it just makes me hungry for more.

If this is the first you’ve seen or head of this upcoming Action RPG, then I would urge you to go and check out my extensive impressions piece based on a 60 minute demonstration I got to sit through back at Gamescom earlier this year.
As for when we’ll see more of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, I wasn’t able to get much more information. Will I be there when they’re ready to share more? Absolutely. For those gamers that miss something in the style of the original Mass Effect Trilogy, it looks like Owlcat Games are bringing the goods, and I can’t wait to see more.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is heading to PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 at some point in the future. If I had to guess, I’d say 2027 – but that is, quite literally – just a guess.
