Unity and Epic Partner Up to bring Unity Games into Fortnite and more

I’ve got to admit, I didn’t see this one coming! At the Unite 2025 Keynote in Barcelona, Unity President and CEO Matt Bromberg announced a new partnership with what is arguably a major rival – Epic Games and Unreal Engine, that sees Unity and Epic partner up to bring Unity games into Fortnite.

Unity and Epic Partner Up to bring Unity Games into Fortnite and more

In the Unite 2025 Keynote, Matt Bromberg was joined on stage by Epic Games Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney to share more detail on this surprising partnership.

You probably didn’t expect to see me here,” he joked as he arrived on stage. Sharing more detail on this new partnership, he said “At Epic, we make this other engine, begins with a ‘U’, but we also make the Epic Games Store, which has a huge number of awesome Unity Games, and we make Epic Online services in Fortnite. Recently we got together with Unity and we realised that we all share a common view of the need to support fair and open digital platforms. One of the big challenges for developers now is the fragmentation of tools and publishing pathways. And just like the early days of the web, we believe that companies need to work together to build open and interoperable systems. And we’re doing this now.

He continued, “Today, we’re announcing that Unity is going to bring their new in-app purchase SDK to all Unreal Engine developers.”

Per Unity, this new partnership will create “more opportunity and value for players and developers. Developers will have the ability to publish Unity games into Fortnite, one of the world’s largest gaming ecosystems with more than 500 million registered accounts worldwide, and participate in the Fortnite Creator Economy. Unity will also be bringing Unreal Engine support to their cross-platform commerce platform. This will give Unreal developers more choice for managing everything from their digital catalogs and payment providers to web shops across PC, mobile, and web.

Matt Bromberg, Unity President and CEO saidWe’re excited to partner with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world. Choice and open systems create growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem.

More detail on the partnership between Unity and Epic – including product timing – will be shared next year.
