Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is now out in the wild, and while plenty of players are having fun (though the campaign, much like the JSOC team on which it focuses) is causing some fans to absolutely lose it. However, some are noticing what looks to be Generative AI cropping up as they play, and they’re not happy about it – understandably so.
Almost every single campaign and endgame calling card in bo7 is like Grok Ai generated images its so insane pic.twitter.com/5bCGNJQmgn

Kumesicles, a user on Twitter, shared the above art in a post as an example. Now granted, at least on Steam, Activision does make the disclosure that “Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.“, which is something that is required by Steam so users can be aware before they make a purchase.

In this article over frvr.com, it’s suggested that even the coveted ‘Prestige’ icons are AI generated in some fashion, though obviously we can’t make that determination without asking Activision directly. So we did – we asked “Is Black Ops 7 using generative AI for calling cards and prestige icons?“
Activision have provided a statement, and to be honest, it’s a non-answer, but it’s what we got.
“Like so many around the world, we use a variety of digital tools, including AI tools, to empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players. Our creative process continues to be led by the talented individuals in our studios.”
I don’t know about you, but I feel we can probably take that as a yes?
