It’s N7 Day, and for Mass Effect fans, it usually means a nice tease about what’s coming next. Back in 2023, Bioware teased us with a little video, seen below. This year, we’re not lucky enough to get another video to watch I’m afraid. We are however treated to a reassuring message from Bioware Executive Mike Gamble.
In a blog post via Bioware’s website for this ‘N7 Day‘, Mike shared some updates on what’s going on, and acknowledged the ongoing rumours surrounding Bioware’s ongoing survival. Post Dragon Age: The Veilguard (which we loved, by the way), in addition to EA’s bid to sell, and the general state of the industry is assuredly cause for concern.
“Like you,” he wrote, “we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.“
Mike also teased a little about the upcoming Mass Effect TV series, which is in production at Amazon – “Beyond the next game, there’s more to get excited about. I haven’t talked about it much, but you might have heard a little something about a TV series? We’ve been partnering closely with Amazon on it, and we’re really excited with what the talented team over there is coming up with. “
The downside here is that I fear Bioware and EA are doing another Halo. Instead of telling the story fans know and love, they are instead focusing on “a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline“. As someone who really disliked Halo’s TV show and felt it was a waste of an opportunity for fans, I worry the same may be true of Mass Effect. Mike confirms it will be set after the original trilogy, and not a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story. Am I the only one disappointed to hear that? If you’re also disappointed at the lack of another teaser, don’t worry – so is Mike!
For everyone yelling at me because we didn’t use N7 Day to provide a whole bunch of info… I mean, I get it. I’m a fan too. I want you to see stuff. But it’s not the time…yet. Has it been years since announce? Yes. Have we been busy? Yes. Are we NOW 100% on mass effect? Also yes
