Battlefield Redsec – All you need to know to get started
The new Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6 launched today with a ton of hype, and promises to be a great free-to-play experience. Here at XboxEra, we like to help out, and we’ve compiled this handy guide to read before you jump on in. So, here it is: Battlefield Redsec – all you need to know to get started.
Battlefield Redsec was only officially announced yesterday by EA, and they had this to say “Now entering REDSEC, a free-to-play Battlefield experience built on Battlefield DNA. Drop into Fort Lyndon, a government testing ground turned warzone, where squads fight for survival in a Battle Royale only Battlefield can deliver. Experience massive-scale destruction, fast-paced squad play, and the deadliest ring in BR. Survive and advance in Gauntlet, an all-new cutthroat, knockout-style elimination mode where squads race to complete missions and outlast the competition. Then redraw the lines of battle with Portal, giving players the freedom to create, customize, and remix Battlefield their way. Play free now.“
The new mode has different loadouts compared to other Battlefield experiences. Players are in classes – and these come with a signature set which comprises two gadgets, a signature weapons proficiency and a signature trait. You will also have access to a sidearm and melee tool. You will only be able to change these once you have joined a match and before you jump out of the plane to drop in.
Any additional passive abilities that are not locked in to the class you have chosen are earned during play – by either killing enemies. completing contracts and just generally surviving. All players will also receive Thermite Sabotage, which can be placed directly onto vehicles and will slowly drain and damage both the vehicle and its crew.

Classes and Weapons:
- ASSAULT CLASS – POINTMAN: When joining the Assault Class, you will receive the following weapons and abilities. An assault ladder, high explosive launcher, assault rifle, quick plating, grenadier, cluster munitions and stockpile. Your signature trait is ‘mission focused’.
- ENGINEER CLASS – FIELD MECHANIC: Weapons and abilities are as follows. Repair tool, aim-guided launcher, SMG, enhanced targeting, devastating impact, mobility-kill warhead and stockpile. Your signature trait is ‘mechanised infantry’.
- SUPPORT CLASS – PROVISIONER: Providing a more assistive role, your weapons and abilities are: Supply bag, smoke grenade launcher, LMG, supply line, urgent aid, haemostatic smoke and stockpile. Your signature trait is ‘field sustainment’.
- RECON CLASS – DRONE SPECIALIST: Players in this class will gain the following weapons and abilities. Motion sensor, recon drone, sniper rifle, bombadier, tracking pulse, loitering munition and stockpile. Your signature trait is ‘passive spotting’.
After selecting your class, players are free to choose both a sidearm and melee tool, and the sidearm may be used as your starting weapon if you so wish. They can also be fully customised by unlocking attachments.
Missions:
There are a few different missions in Battle Royale. These are pretty much side-quests that will appear as a prompt once you have been in a match for a while. These will earn you various rewards, but they are not without risk. There is also the option for a counter mission, when another squad near to you accepts a mission. These will normally bring great rewards due to the fact you will generally be engaging in close combat. The missions are as follows: Signal Decryption, Weapons Cache, Marked, High Value Assets, Data Extraction, Headhunter and Tank hunter.

Death and Respawning
There are two different ways you can respawn whilst in a match. The first is called ‘second chance’ and you can only do this one once. It only works near to the start of the game, and players can activate it independently – they will then be air-dropped in near a teammate. If you do not use this feature you will gain some XP. If however you are taken out, your team can respawn all eliminated members at various respawn points in the map. These need to be activated and then the squad member must stay in the area for the countdown, or they will have to start again. You can only use a respawn point once.
There are three ways in which a match will finish. The first is when all of your squad is eliminated. The second is to be the last squad standing. And the third – well, that’s called the Circle of Death. This area is clearly marked in red on your map; whatever you do, AVOID IT!
Obviously the best way to learn all the ins and outs of Battlefield Redsec is just to get stuck in, but we hope this guide has helped you find your feet a little bit.
