Dead Static Drive slides into Game Pass this November

Via a press release, the team have announced the release date for Dead Static Drive, and depending on how frightening your backlog is, you’ll be delighted to know it’s coming a lot sooner than you might have thought!

Per the developers, “Indie studio Reuben Games are excited to announce that Dead Static Drive will officially launch on November 5th, 2025, for Xbox Game Pass and PC.

What the hell is Dead Static Drive?

Amusingly the development team describe the game as “Grand Theft Cthulhu” – it’s a stylised survival-horror experience taking place in 1980’s America. You’ll play as ‘Hearst’, which the team describe as a ‘wayward traveler following a cryptic letter through gas stations, diners, and decaying suburbs.

The core of the game is survival, and you’ll tasked with scavenging, fighting, sneaking around and exploring the environment. You’re doing this, per the development team, to “stop the continuing violence of an estranged father, who has fast-spiralled into a paranoid recluse convinced technology will ruin us all.
It’s heavily influenced by the work of weird fiction authors T. E. D. Klein, Gene Wolfe, & Ramsey Campbell, filmmaker David Lynch, and photographer William Eggleston. Per the developers, Dead Static Drive hopes to invoke images of an America now lost, where with the right car and enough gas, anything felt possible.

Dead Static Drive releases November 5th, 2025, for Xbox Game Pass and PC.
