Obsidian Entertainment‘s latest RPG is upon us. Authors of classics like Fallout: New Vegas and Neverwinter Nights 2, but also more recent titles like Grounded 2 and Avowed, their talent is hard to deny. Their follow-up to 2019’s The Outer Worlds is upon us, and since the studio is under Microsoft’s banner, one question arises. Is The Outer Worlds 2 on Game Pass? Let’s find out!
Can’t Pass it up
As you can find in our review, The Outer Worlds 2 is an absolute blast, blowing the original game out of the water in almost every way imaginable. Vastly improved combat, gorgeous graphics, great writing – we certainly have another Obsidian classic in our hands. Even I, who wasn’t a big fan of the first game, have found this sequel to be a vast improvement. It just feels so much better to play, much like this year’s Avowed.
You are probably well aware of the fact that all Microsoft-published games can be found on Game Pass day one. This has been a core feature of the service for many years now, after all. From first party successes like Forza Horizon 5, to publishing deals like Ninja Gaiden 4, Game Pass remains the place to be for Xbox owners. Recently though, a controversial tier shake-up and price increase has caused some confusion over what happens to future Microsoft games exactly. So, is The Outer Worlds 2 on Game Pass?
Towards new adventures
The answer depends on the tier, really. On console, if you’re on the two cheaper tiers, Essential and Premium, The Outer Worlds 2 is not included in the service at this time. It is expected to land in Premium at a later date, though it’s not known yet when that’ll happen. As it’s been for a while now, day one Microsoft titles are reserved to Ultimate members. This does not change, even after the aforementioned shake-up. Thus, you can play The Outer Worlds 2 now if you’re subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate. Over on PC, it’s sufficient to subscribe to Game Pass PC to access this game since its launch.
