‘Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition’ Mod Brings Minivans, Hundreds of Cars, and a Revamped Career to a PS One Classic

It takes quite a long time to beat YouTube’s algorithms into submission—and when you get the leash on Google’s crummy video platform, it’ll serve you the coolest content imaginable. In my case, over the weekend, I learned about a coming mod that promises to add over 300 cars from fifty manufacturers and a revamped career mode among other things to a PlayStation One classic: meet the ‘Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition’, a mod that adds so much more to one of the best racing titles on Sony’s first-ever console hardware.

So, going off the YouTube video’s description, this “Beige” edition promises the following:

  • Over 330 brand new cars for over 50 manufactures!
  • Over 150 trim and model edits to existing base game cars!
  • Completely revamped career mode!
  • Redesigned menus, assets and more!
  • Universal Used Car Dealerships!
  • New in-race soundtrack!
  • and More!

What’s so cool here is the acknowledgement that minivans receive. Believe it or not, I much prefer driving a tricked-out Ford Fiesta and Toyota Highlander over those fancy McLarens any day. Well, I’m also lying a teeny tiny bit, but it’s nice to see a mod that focuses on the cars that the average person comes into contact within their everyday lives.

Wait no, not that kind of contact.

Like all good things in life, Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition has no release date. Keep an eye out for it over the coming months if not years—and hunt down a copy of Gran Turismo 2, while you’re at it. It’ll be useful when you get to emulate it on the Xbox ROG Ally!
