Today, publisher SEGA and GPS & map provider Waze announced that they’ve collaborated to bring everyone’s chili dog enthusiast and wise-cracking animal Sonic the Hedgehog as a voiced sidekick to the Waze map application. Voiced by the very Roger Craig Smith in English (and also available in French!), drivers from all over will be able to experience the joys of receiving navigational advice and the occasional backseat driving from the fastest hedgehog around.
Notably, you can look forward to the following:
- Sonic Voice Navigation: Fans can now activate voice navigation by Sonic in English and French as he offers instructions with his usual coolness and confidence to guide the way.
- Sonic-Themed Icons: Transform your in-app vehicle into the iconic “Speedster Lightning” featured in SEGA’s newest Sonic Racing game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds™. Plus, choose the “Energetic” mood (how you appear on the Waze map) to add extra Sonic personality to your drives.
To access Sonic as a sidekick, simply navigate to the Waze app (or click here on mobile), open the hamburger menu on the top left, click “sidekicks”, and activate the Sonic the Hedgehog option:
As Sonic’s 35th anniversary approaches, fans new and old can look forward to finding this blue blur in more places than one. Stay tooned.
