Xbox has been sending out emails about their upcoming Game Pass Ultimate price hike, with some users confused as they were told their prices wouldn’t be changing. We now have the answer as to why.

Xbox Game Pass is seeing a price increase from $20 a month in the US up to $30 for the Ultimate tier, as reported last week. Users in certain territories have begun receiving emails to make them aware of the price change. In certain countries, those existing subscribers were told their prices would not be changing as of yet, leading to confusion.
Tom Warren of The Verge has gotten a statement from Xbox about why some countries have their price increases delayed:
“Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries,” says Kari Perez, head of Xbox communications, in a statement to The Verge.
From the sounds of it, the price increases are still coming. They just need to give proper warning, time-wise, before implementing them. Last week the entire structure around Game Pass changed:
In a new blog post on Xbox Wire, Microsoft have shared new details on what’s next for Xbox Game Pass. “Starting today, we’re introducing three upgraded Game Pass plans based on how players play: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Each includes expanded game libraries, including PC titles, unlimited cloud gaming, in-game benefits (including Riot Games titles), and a revamped Rewards with Xbox experience. Today’s Game Pass Core subscribers will automatically move to Essential, Standard subscribers will transition to Premium, and Ultimate subscribers will remain in the Ultimate plan.“
