GameStop continues to sell Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at original price

Following yesterdays blog post from Xbox detailing a complete overhaul and restructure of Xbox Game Pass, a US store has gone against the grain and is offering customers the chance to purchase Game Pass Ultimate at the price it was before the update. Let’s find out more about GameStop continuing to sell Game Pass at the original price.

A post on X last night announced the move from the US based store. According to the post, GameStop will continue to sell Xbox Game Pass Ultimate codes for $19.99 both in store and online – and they have not put an end date on this offer either. This is a very clever marketing strategy from the chain, and I’m sure it will be a tempting offer for many; especially those who feel like they are being priced out of the subscription service. The update to Xbox Game Pass has not been without controversy. The new price for Game Pass Ultimate is a huge 50% increase, with a monthly subscription now costing a whopping $29.99. That’s a yearly subscription fee of $360, which some say is excessive. Our editor-in-chief Jon shared his opinion on the changes, saying “Microsoft are turning the screws on the last remaining Xbox faithful, a seemingly dwindling number of users who still have the passion and nostalgia for the Xbox brand – a passion that Nintendo and Sony have in spades. Instead of rewarding those users, it feels more and more like Xbox are taking them for granted, and I think that the more they push these costs on to them, the more of them they will ultimately lose.” You can read the article here.
