Avalanche Studios Group to close UK Studio, and restructure elsewhere

Avalanche Studios Group, the development team behind the Just Cause franchise and the very recently aborted Contraband, have released a statement regarding their future. The group, who have studios in both the UK and Sweden shared a post on their website today saying that they are to close their UK studio and restructure elsewhere.

Avalanche Studios Group have been very successful in the past following their formation in 2003 by Linus Blomberg and Christofer Sundberg, most famously with the Just Cause franchise of games. The first was released in 2006, and the newest title, Just Cause 4 in 2018. The most recent new IP from the team, which was initially announced in 2021, was Contraband. Developed in partnership with Xbox Game Studios, production of the game came to an abrupt halt in August of this year. You can read more about the cancellation in our article here. Now, just a month later, the Studio have made this announcement:

It seems like now is a very unstable time to be a video game developer – and this latest announcement of yet another studio closure and restructure comes at a time of great uncertainty across the entire video game industry. However according to this latest statement from them, Avalanche are not totally shutting up shop yet and they insist that they are still very committed to further game development.
