Mass Effect Legendary Edition

What are the Best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass Right Now?

A compilation of the ever-popular Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, the legendary edition is exactly that. Our reviews editor Jesse made this comment: “Mass Effect is one of the greatest accomplishments in entertainment history, and if you haven’t played it make it #1 on your backlog to do so.” (Our editor-in-chief is still working on his review…maybe one day)

Mass Effect Legendary Edition comprises remastered versions of all three games, with over 40 DLC and loads of visual improvements, and although it’s been released for a long time – still holds up as one of the greatest accomplishments in gaming history.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Released in April 2025 to rave reviews, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a beautifully written third-person, turn-based JRPG also featuring some light platforming. Described as having incredible writing and engaging combat, and a gorgeous soundtrack to boot, this is one game you won’t want to miss out on playing.

Starfield

What are the Best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass Right Now?

Bethesda’s epic space- based adventure released in 2023, and holds up as one of the most important games in Xbox history. Containing solid combat elements, and options to either play in the first or third person, Starfield is an absolute beast of a game, where players can spend hundreds of hours getting down and dirty traversing the galaxy.

You can check out the XboxEra review here, and Jesse summed up Starfield by saying “Starfield is a new beginning. Not only for Bethesda but for Xbox as a whole. With excellent writing, stunning graphics, and thrilling gameplay it makes the galaxy yours to explore, shape, and live in. It is a wonderous tapestry to experience your story in a way that only the best have done before.”

Avowed was a day one release on Xbox Game Pass in February of this year. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has won over 200 Game of the Year awards, and it’s easy to see why. This edition brings new features and add-ons as well as the game that reimagined the open-world fantasy genre. The side content is second to none, and the freedom you have to explore is hard to beat.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

What are the Best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass Right Now?

Released in April 2025, after a full-on remake and remaster With a totally rebuilt UI and containing a HUGE amount of content, the charm of the 2006 original game remains, but with some major upgrades. Our review was hugely positive, with Jesse commenting “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is about as good a remaster as you could hope for. It doesn’t look to reinvent the gameplay, instead focusing on smart tweaks where possible. What is remade are the graphics, and Virtuous has done a stupendous job keeping the feel of the original while overhauling every single pixel.” You can read the full article here.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Featuring turn based combat and lots of options to explore, South Park: The Fractured But Whole has delighted hard-core fans of the series. Playing as a new kid in town, you become embroiled in a heroic war. With all the humour and silliness you’d expect, South Park: the fractured But Whole is a lighter alternative to some of the darker RPGs on Game Pass.

Fallout

I haven’t specified which Fallout game in this article as all the main games are on Xbox Game Pass (The entire series available on PC, 3 and up on console), but I would like to make particular mention of Fallout: New Vegas. With second-to-none storytelling and excellent writing, Fallout: New Vegas is a great way to check out the Fallout Universe; particularly if you are a fan of the Hit TV show.

Dragon Age

What are the Best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass Right Now?

There are a few titles in this beloved series, including Dragon Age: Origins (originally released on Xbox 360), right up to the newest offering of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Even the oldie-but-goodie Origins still holds up today and The Veilguard scored a pile of great reviews. From our review: “Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t just in my Game of the Year rankings, it’s in my Best Games of All Time. BioWare has finally matched their recent excellent third-person combat with some of, if not their best, story work to date. This game is an absolute triumph for those old and new to the series.” You can read the full article here.

The Outer Worlds 2

What are the Best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass Right Now?

This is a bit of a cheeky one, seeing as the game isn’t even released yet – but we think it deserves an honourable mention. Our reviews editor Jesse got his mitts on the preview at Gamescom this year, and had this to say about it: “It’s fun, gorgeous, full of choices to make, and if it is any indication of the full game, then Obsidian has another winner on their hands.  It is a large step-up from the first title, graphically and in its gameplay.” You can read his full preview here.

The Outer Worlds 2 is releasing Day One on Xbox Game Pass on October 29th, so in the mean time – you can always play the first one.
