How to change difficulty in Borderlands 4

Borderlands games can be tough, especially when played solo, as there’s usually nobody to revive us if things go south. Fortunately, Borderlands 4 allows players to change difficulty at any given time, even during a mission, but this option may not be where you expect it. So… let’s find how to change the difficulty in Borderlands 4, shall we?

As you can read in our review, it’s safe to say that Borderlands really is back. After the excellent Borderlands 2, it felt like the franchise had some trouble finding its footing, with a handful of spin-offs and even the 3rd numbered installment not quite being as good as hoped – at least, in the eyes of many players. Not that surprising, then, that the 4th numbered entry of the series is essentially correcting all the mistakes made in Borderlands 3, while also modernizing the formula in many smart ways, arguably bringing the franchise back to where it once was: as one of the golden standards of looter shooters.

As is the case for the whole franchise, Borderlands 4 hits hardest when played in co-op, which allows for some bombastic action sequences, incredible synergies and all sorts of daring strategies to materialize – much more so, than when playing solo, where extra caution is advised. Either way, if you’re finding the game too easy or too hard, nothing stops you from changing the difficulty – something you can do at any time, even during a mission itself. Your instinct may take you to the Options menu, but that’s not actually where you need to go. Simply press the Start button on your controller, or Esc on PC, then click on Session Settings. Here, a drop-down menu allows you to select between difficulties, with the game even readily explaining the ups and downs of each setting.

That wasn’t too hard, wasn’t it? Now that Borderlands 4 is finally out for everyone to play, let us know in the comments below how you’re liking it, or hit us up on any of our many platforms. See you on planet Kairos, vault hunters!
