Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a stunning new single player horror game

After a short tease on social media a few days ago, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival has released a full trailer alongside a bevy of new info, and it looks great.

In a press release disguised as a blog post on the Xbox Wire, we’ve learned the following info, thanks to Nenad Tomic, the Executive Producer, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a story-driven horror game that delves deep into the franchise’s rich mythos. You’ll play as Aidan, a man who must use the power of a mysterious puzzle box – the Genesis Configuration – to help his girlfriend Sunny’s escape from the otherworldly hellscape of the Labyrinth. We consider it a huge privilege to be able to bring the haunting, cinematic experience of Hellraiser – once exclusive to the big screen – to computer and console screens.

Fair warning for the trailer embedded below, it is a not safe for work redband style trailer full of gore and nudity (and it’s awesome).

Here is some more info about the game, direct from the EP:

Clive Barker has been deeply involved with the game from the very beginning. His guidance and intimate understanding of the Hellraiser universe have been instrumental in shaping every aspect of the experience. From the visual style and story motifs to the lore and character personalities, his creative input has ensured that the game remains authentic to the spirit of Hellraiser.

He has worked closely with us, helping to refine our ideas so that they align seamlessly with his original vision, making this game a true extension of his dark and imaginative world.

The game is inspired by the first two Hellraiser movies, drawing from their atmosphere, themes, and mythos. However, its plot is not directly connected to the movies. Instead, it should be seen as a new story set within the Hellraiser universe – one that stays true to its lore while offering a fresh and terrifying experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

According to Nenad Tomic, the title is “closer than you think”. Keep an eye on Xbox Era for more news over the coming months.

“Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings,” said Clive Barker, horror legend and creator of Hellraiser, who has been a guiding hand for the game’s unique story in the Hellraiser universe. “The dedication that Saber and Boss Team Games have shown is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve immersed themselves in the Hellraiser universe, capturing its essence—the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty within the grotesque—and forged a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold. I’m eager for both the curious and the damned to experience this new chapter in the Hellraiser mythos, where every moment balances on the brink of nightmare and revelation.”

“Hellraiser is the quintessential horror franchise, and lends itself perfectly to a video game,” said Matthew Karch, CEO and co-founder of Saber Interactive. “Saber has had success with horror IPs in the past, and working alongside Clive to create tense gameplay and a new story that delves into the twisted depths of pain and pleasure has been a real treat. We look forward to opening up the gates of hell.”
