extas1s’s latest scoop is that Xbox is working with Xenia to bring an Xbox Classics program to PC. According to extas1s’ social media post:

XBOX and the XENIA CANARY emulator team are working TOGETHER under the “Xbox Classics” program (tentative). The idea is to bring the Xbox 360 and OG RETRO to PC, Game Pass and xCloud with improvements.

Here are some more quotes direct from extas1s’ YouTube video:

Now, what is this Xbox Classics? This is a provisional name because I repeat, this does not have to be the final name, but in principle, it is the name that is being used to work on the program internally. As I said, this is a name for this project that is internally provisional and could of course change in many ways before its public presentation.

But what I’m going to talk to you about and what I’m going to explain to you about Xbox Classics is that it is not simply, we have talked about the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 is not a simple re-release of old backwards compatibility games for your series 10 and series S. What Xbox is working on is a new advanced emulation platform designed to run classic Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles with stability, graphical improvements, full integration with game Pass, pc, current consoles, portable devices like the Ally, and of course the cloud.

In other words, so that you understand, Xbox is creating an emulation platform for 360 and original Xbox games. This emulator will allow you to run Xbox 360 and original Xbox Games with significant improvements all integrated into Game Pass and of course on all the platforms on which you can use the Xbox application. And yes, as I was telling you, this move also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Xbox brand, and that is why the idea they have in principle is to divide the launch into two large waves that will be announced throughout 2026.

It’s an exciting proposition, having your full library of Xbox titles available in some form no matter what you’re playing on, PC-wise. What are your thoughts on this ‘Xbox Classics’ initiative? Let us know in the comments section.

  1. i remember suggesting this on xbox forums 15 years ago. wanted to play xbox and x360 games on pc with accessibility and futureproofness and them making a store for it made sense. well it didnt happen so by now i have bought about 70% of games for both devices mostly second hand.

so as with many things xbox does, cool, but meh.

  2. If it means that all of the games are finally going to be available on modern consoles I’ll be looking for specific ones to play again ….. nostalgia childhood games

  3. Big companies won’t work with emulator creators, they would rather hire them but due to Xenia being open source and community driven – I can’t see that they will collaborate in the first place.
