DuskGolem, noted Capcom leaker, is “95% certain” that Resident Evil 9 will be unveiled at Summer Games Fest this week.

Dusk Golem is a well-respected leaker when it comes to all things Capcom. In a post today he seems confident on Resident Evil 9 appearing at SGF this week:
Again, not like I can give 100% confirmation, no one’s directly told me or the like. But at this point I’m like 95% positive we’re on the verge of RE9 being revealed at SGF. This is the first time behind the scenes there’s a lot of buzz in the grapevine, lots of rumblings & the sorta’ activity behind the scenes that usually are signs we’re about to get a Resident Evil game announced.
Add to that Capcom’s RE social media accounts seem to be getting more active suddenly, Andi from Screenfire Germany’s claim (I put stake in his word here), and I’d say if you’re tuning into Summer Game Fest on June 6th hoping that Resident Evil 9 will show up, there’s an incredibly high chance you won’t be disappointed. I’m getting into hype mode for it myself.
He has been giving leaks for the title for years, and No1PiggyOnTheBlock compiled a list of all of it from Dusk’s image Twitter post:
Summary of everything I (Dusk Golem) have claimed about Resident Evil 9 over the years. If you have followed me closely enough, nothing really new here. Just concisely stating everything I’ve said over the span of a few years about RE9. These are mostly just teases rather than things I’d consider leaks, some development history, but wanted to summarize it up for people to reflect on later:
– Various rumors over the years, like the Native American Wendigo Blood Moon rumor or the Jill Hospital Goatman rumor, are complete nonsense.
– RE9 started development in 2017 after initial sales of RE7 failed to meet its sales goal, greenlit as “the opposite of RE7.” It started development as RE8 rather than RE9 (knocking a direct sequel to RE7 that had started development in 2016, titled Village, to be sidelined for a time). But Capcom didn’t want a huge release gap between RE7 & RE8, so ultimately it became RE9 rather than RE8 around 2019.
– The scrapped original version of RE9 was an open world co-op game set on a fictional Singapore island. The final game I’ve heard is not set in Singapore, I’ll mention.
– Jill Valentine was the co-op partner in this initial version of RE9, but she plays no major role in the final game. The final game is not co-op; it’s single player.
– This version of RE9 was scrapped in 2020-2021, somewhere around Village’s marketing cycle and after the release of RE:3.
– Leon is still the main character of RE9. This is viewed as “the conclusion of his trilogy,” carrying over character elements from RE:2 & RE:4 that are still in the general gamers’ public consciousness.
– RE9 will be third-person.
– Resident Evil 9 will not play “just like” other Resident Evil games or remakes; it is a reinvention of the series, once again looking back at the series’ roots to evolve ideas from the original Resident Evil 1, but in different ways than RE7 did. It’s being made as a substantial evolution of the “Resident Evil formula,” a really ambitious project that has re-analyzed the series’ core elements.
– It is using the RE Engine tech advancements that were made for Dragon’s Dogma 2, which were also used in Monster Hunter Wilds.
– Despite starting as an open-world game, the final game I’ve heard isn’t open world. At least not any more than other Resident Evil games; there are big areas, but it’s not a sandbox.
– RE9 will only have one campaign. Leon is not the only playable character, but he is the main character.
– RE9 is a really ambitious game; it has the biggest budget of any RE game, has been in development the longest (in some form of development for around 9 years by the time it releases), trying to push above series expectations (from graphics to audio and gameplay feel). They want Resident Evil to innovate and be the leader of the horror game genre once again with this title.
– RE9 will lean more toward the side of horror than action, despite starring Leon. From expectations set by RE:4, it’ll have action present but toned down; the horror will be amped up.
– The setting has a really strong gothic horror atmosphere, very “witchy.”
– Capcom, before RE8 came out, considered dropping numbers for future Resident Evil game titles, which RE9 will continue to my knowledge. Part of the reason they want to drop numbers is to move forward to more unique stories in the Resident Evil Universe rather than everything needing to be tied to the series legacy.
– RE9 is going to be a “Conclusion” game, but also a game of “New Beginnings.” We’ll see major status quo changes within the universe; it’s being treated as the “End” of the story that started with RE1 (or REO timeline-wise), opening the series up for different kinds of horror stories.
Again, nothing radically new or substantial here; I’ve mostly just been a tease. Just thought I’d summarize things I’ve been saying since 2020. Hope y’all are having a wonderful day all the same!
-There’s one thing I forgot to mention I’ve said, RE9 was delayed twice in dev. Once during COVID, once due to the game needing more time to cook. It was slated for a Summer 2024 reveal/Early 2025 release before an internal delay. It’s being revealed this year, releasing in 2026.
