Netflix’s Gears of War movie may have found its director, who is known for Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy.

The Netflix Gears of War movie has gotten a director, according to an article from The Hollywood Reporter. David Leitch is set to direct the film and produce it alongside Kelly McCormick. The movie’s script is being worked on by Jon Spaihts, whose recent credits include the Dune franchise with Legendary and Denis Villeneuve.
THR reached out to Netflix but received no comment as of the time of publishing. This project has been in the works since Netflix acquired the rights back in late 2022. The deal reportedly included a live action film alongside an animated series. Gears has been back in the news a lot lately, after Gears of War: Reloaded was announced earlier this month. Here is our reporting on that title.
In a surprising random blog post on the Xbox Wire, Gears of War: Reloaded has been announced. It will release on August 26, 2025, for $39.99 SRP. As one would expect, it is a Day One Game Pass launch, is Play Anywhere, and will be available via Xbox Cloud Gaming. The biggest news is that this entry will mark the series’ debut on PlayStation hardware. For Xbox console and Microsoft Store customers who already own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Reloaded will be a free upgrade.
