Looks like the United States FCC have accidentally leaked some images of Xbox’s “Project Kennan”, a new device from partner ASUS, which appears to be, in essence, the ROG Ally 2.

Project Kennan was first reported by Windows Central as a part of Microsoft’s first tentative steps into new hardware, sort of. Rather than a purely native Xbox handheld, this would be a partner-led device with ASUS, an existing manufacturer of the pretty great ROG Ally, a Windows 11 handheld gaming PC.
These images appear to have been leaked by the FCC and were spotted by the folks over at Videocardz.com. Per their report, it was 91mobiles who initially discovered the entries. There are apparently two versions, one comes in black with an Xbox button, an 36W AMD 8-core Ryzen Z2 Extreme and 64Gb of LPDDR5X memory.
The other is white, loses the Xbox button and supports an AMD 4-core 20W chip. The memory specs of the latter device are currently unknown.

It’s worth re-iterating that this is not a native Xbox handheld, but a Windows 11 device. While both devices sport Xbox controller like handles, they are Windows devices first and foremost with all the good and bad that comes with that.

It’s currently rumoured that Microsoft are hard at work on multiple improvements for Windows 11 when it comes to how the Operating System treats and handles handheld devices. Most of the desired improvements will come via the Xbox app, though many may be direct OS improvements integrated into Windows 11 itself.

ASUS themselves teased the device back in March, though no further reveal was forthcoming. It’s possible any planned reveals may have been delayed due to the ongoing tariffs and economic uncertainties – it’s certainly not the best time to unveil expensive consumer electronics.
When is the best time? Microsoft’s BUILD event is currently planned for later this month in addition to Computex, and it’s likely to one of these events where more official information is forthcoming. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see.
