In a surprise shocking precisely no-one here at XboxEra, the most anticipated game of the year, nay, perhaps even the generation – has had it’s release date changed. GTA 6 is now releasing in 2026.

“GTA 6 is now set to release on May 26, 2026”
In a post on X, Rockstar Games announced the delay, with a lengthy post detailed the why. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Tehft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game.“
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

The game was originally set to come out at some point in 2025, with many publishers, be they AAA behemoths or tiny indie labels all being incredibly wary of staying out the way. In some ways, this frees up the rest of the year, and now that the game has a confirmed release date of May 26th next year, allows for easier planning and scheduling.
GTA 6 will be coming to the Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 consoles at launch, with a PC version later as per usual with Rockstar releases. It’s a sequel to one of the most successful releases of all time, Grand Theft Auto V.
The GTA series originated on PC nearly three decades ago, in 1997. GTA 6 takes place in Vice City, the game’s version of Miami, Florida. Vice City is the main attraction of the Leonida County map. The trailer showed off a variety of locations including beaches, cityscapes and Everglade style forests.
