Developer Slipgate Ironworks and publishers 3D Realms and Knights Peak have announced their first update to their modern-themed post nuclear-war real-time strategy title ‘Tempest Rising’. This update adds ranked matchmaking and a leaderboard to the game—in addition, the company has also pushed out an extended launch trailer with the game’s key characters.

Classic RTS action meets modern production and performance in Tempest Rising. Inspired by RTS greats of the 90s and 2000s, Tempest Rising is a classic, base-building real time strategy game set in a modern day alternative history war scenario. It features 3 unique factions, each with its own approach to combat and economy and offering a variety of strategies for players of all stripes, deep and rewarding gameplay that keeps a focus on strategy while rewarding skill, and built-in customization options that allow players to approach the game their way in both single player and multiplayer game modes.

Tempest Rising, the modern real-time strategy game from Saber Interactive’s 3D Realms publishing label and Knights Peak, in partnership with developer Slipgate Ironworks, officially launched on Steam to glowing reviews from fans and critics alike on April 17. Today marks the arrival of a special extended cut of the game’s launch trailer, along with a competitive multiplayer update featuring ranked mode and leaderboards, adding even more depth to the classic RTS experience.

Launch was just the beginning for Tempest Rising! The game’s first update will hit Steam today adding ranked multiplayer matches and leaderboards. Even more content is coming in the future, including the ability to queue with friends, Spectator mode, more options for skirmish matches, and the Veti, a third playable faction seen in the campaign.

The Standard Edition of Tempest Rising is available on Steam for $39.99. Players can also purchase the game’s Deluxe Edition for $49.99, which includes the base game, a digital artbook showcasing the art and lore of Tempest Rising, and the digital game soundtrack, featuring 41 tracks from legendary Command & Conquer composer Frank Klepacki, plus community favorites like Michael Markie, Hexenkraft, Music Imaginary: Cielecki/Skorupa/Wierzynkiewic, and Sigurd Jøhnk-Jensen.

Tempest Rising transports you to a battle-scarred 1997 in an alternate timeline where the Cuban Missile Crisis went nuclear.
