‘Tenderfoot Tactics’ Developer Removes Game from Sale on Xbox in Solidarity with BDS Movement

Developers delist their title from Xbox platforms in support of the ongoing boycott against Microsoft and its products.

Yesterday, developers of the turn-based tactics title ‘Tenderfoot Tactics‘ announced over BSky.app that they would be removing their title from sale on the Xbox platform in solidarity with the Palestinian-led “Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions” (“BDS”) campaign which added the brand and parent company Microsoft to their boycott campaign.

Per the post:

“The Tenderfoot Tactics team has decided to remove our game from sale on Xbox in solidarity with the Palestinian-lead Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign, which added Xbox to their priority boycott list earlier this month. We hope that Microsoft will listen to the voices of their workers and customers and stop all business with the criminal Israeli military, which we have watched conduct an open genocide in Gaza over the last 18 months. We hope that the broader community will join in the pressure campaign and fight for an end to occupation and apartheid in Palestine and across the world.”

We have removed Tenderfoot Tactics from sale on @xbox.com in solidarity with @bdsmovement.bsky.social . We call on others in our community to do whatever they can to fight this historic injustice. Free Palestine 🍉

Microsoft has been implicated in the BDS movement as complicit in Israel’s continued occupation and, particularly since the October ’23 offensive (which has led to the deaths of 50K+ Palestinians, roughly 70% being women and children), has seen the technology company deepen ties with the Israeli military along with the likes of Google and Amazon. Per The Guardian’s reporting, Microsoft’s Azure cloud services have been suggested to be in use for combat and intelligence activities and the company’s staff have worked closely with the Israeli military’s intelligence directorate in its surveillance of Palestinians in the Gaza strip.

The BDS movement’s call to boycott Microsoft and its products include its Microsoft gaming products (Xbox, Activision-Blizzard-King, Zenimax, etc.) and calls to boycott the company come not only from outside but within the company itself—in Microsoft’s 50th Anniversary event earlier this month, per The Verge’s Tom Warren, Microsoft’s AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman was interrupted by another employee Ibtihal Aboussad, who shouted “Mustafa, shame on you” and continued with “You are a war profiteer. Stop using AI for genocide. Stop using AI for genocide in our region. You have blood on your hands.”

Microsoft employee Vaniya Agrawal had also interrupted CEO Satya Nadella during his speech, shouting “Shame on you all. You’re all hypocrites.” Both employees were fired days after the event, but the protests within Microsoft continue with the company considering protestors to be “workplace conflict” team members.

Tenderfoot Tactics is available on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch consoles.
