Missed out on a free copy of Metro 2033 on Xbox? You’re not alone

Earlier this week, 4A Games, developers of the acclaimed Metro series celebrated 15 years of the franchise, and made the game free across Steam, GOG and Xbox. There’s only one problem – the Xbox version never seemed to actually go free.

Metro 2033 is free for the next 48 hours as series celebrates 15 year anniversary – XboxEra

Even I struggled to get this to work after successfully redeeming the game on Steam, but it turns out, I wasn’t the only Xbox owner with the problem. Many fans made it clear that it didn’t seem to be working, and 4A Games have advised they’re working with Microsoft to run the offer again.

Writing in response to fans (some of whom immediately accused the developers of lying (give them a break folks, it’s not their fault), the team advised that they “will run this again for our Xbox fans in the near future stay tuned for updates.”

Metro 2033, released in 2010, was free to download across multiple online stores, from SteamGOG and it was meant to include Xbox. The intital 48 hour redemption period has now passed, so we’ll have to wait and see when 4A Games makes the offer available – and working this time – for Xbox owners.

So fret not, Xbox owners – if and when Metro 2033 becomes free for a limited time period again, we’ll let you know.

About Metro 2033

About Metro 2033: In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival; with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised underground. Having never ventured beyond the city limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat.
